In My Studio ~ Portrait Series ~ 1

I have taken on a large portrait commission and I have decided to share my progress with you as I go from blank canvas to final painting.

The subject of this painting is Adrienne, a lovely woman who had commissioned me for two previous portraits that now hang in her home. I would have shared them with you but realized I never took pictures of the finished paintings before I delivered them to her.

And this is the huge 36" x 48" canvas I will be working on!

I will be posting about this project every Sunday until
it is complete, so please stop by again and follow
my progress as I attempt to capture the beauty of
Adrienne on canvas.

Art Studio Makeover Day 1

Taking advantage of this long weekend, I decided to move
forward in my "Art Studio Makeover" and began the task of
stripping the multiple layers of wallpaper off the walls.

As I worked, sweat drenching me from the unusually humid May
weather, I realized that this is going to have to be a very
creative cosmetic job.

Without the financing or the time to really re-do the room the
proper way, I am going to be relying on my artistic mind to come
up with unique and inexpensive fixes for all the major problems
the room must overcome.

I won't have hubbies assistance on this project either because
the spring and summer are pique times for him at work.
I am on my own with this project!

The walls above the wallpaper are full of holes and dings
because there were wooden shelves nailed to the walls.

In some areas the paint even pealed off the wall with the paper.

In others, the base wallpaper separated from the patterned
paper on top and was left behind.

So I have a multiple of layers remaining on the wall to deal
with. I should be able to remove the paper with a liquid
wallpaper remover, but the nail holes are another story.

My options are to spackle the holes and try to make the
walls look smooth again OR I can come up with a more
creative idea to cover the walls and all its flaws. It IS an
art studio, afterall. Shouldn't it be as creative as possible?

THIS jumble of loose wires is something hubby will
have to deal with. That kind of repair is just sooo
over my head and I have a fear of electrocution!

My ultimate goal is to create a room that is cheerful,
inspirational and functional. Someplace I want to be
and that feeds my muse.

I have a few ideas on how to treat the walls, but I would
love any suggestions from all my super-creative friends
out there!

Leave a comment and tell me what you would do!

Perfume By The Alchemist's Heart

I am very pleased to  bring to your attention a new shop on Etsy, The Alchemist's Heart.

Darlene, the shop's proprietress, creates "all natural perfumes using 100% pure essences of the finest quality derived from herbs, blossoms, fruits and woods."

I am particularly happy to say that I played a small part in Darlene's new venture by helping her develop her packaging, which looks wonderful gracing the vials and lockets of her handcrafted solid perfumes and balms.

Her own product photography is wonderfully styled and the products themselves are created with the finest care.

If you have a moment, click over to The Alchemist's Heart and peruse the wide selection of solid perfumes and lip balms.

I don't actually have pictures of my workdesk because
my studio is under renovation and I tend to sit on the E-Z
chair with a wood drawing board in my lap anyway,
but I can show you all what I have been drawing lately.

A Before & After Stair Project

We are finally closing in on the end of a few home projects
that have been hanging around.

The Stairway going up to Andrew's Model Trains Room, and
to my In-law's part of the house, is finished, so I thought I would
share with you some before and after shots.

This photo was sanding side table, taking advantage of the messed
up floor after construction. Those cement patches were where great
heaps of earth were dug out in the ground under our house to update
some plumbing for the addition upstairs.

AFTER
There are 6 doors and one stairway off this hallway now!

My new studio is the facing door on the left, also still
under construction. More on that project soon!

A Box of Goodies Arrived In The Mail!

A month or so ago I was the very lucky winner of one of
Once a Month Giveaways)!

Judy is the wonderful blogger over at Be Present Be Real.

I am rather late at getting around to posting publicly my thanks
to Judy as I received the package a few weeks ago,  but I am so
grateful to Judy for her constant generosity.

When I received the large Fed Ex box just overflowing with
all manner of craft supplies and wonderful craft ed cards and
tags it took me quite some time to get through it.

I took pictures of some of what I received,
but there was so much!
Thanks, Judy!!

All sorts of great scrapbooking doodads!
Plenty of great scrapbooking paper!
Even some games!

Laminations supplies

Stamping supplies!

I don't know what to play with first!
What else can an artist ask for?

Silver Sunday

I have been into silver jewelry a lot lately. I am always keeping an eye
out for a great ring, earrings or necklace.

I found this great index ring in "silver" and "onyx" at Kohl's the
other day while shopping for Mother's Day. It was an affordable
treat at 50% off.

My son and I stopped by a Yard Sale on our way to the Comic
Book Store for Free Comic Book Day Saturday and as I perused
the handbags, I spotted a box of costume jewelry.

Yet inside that box were a few tarnished pieces that I immediately
identified as sterling silver rings and pendants.

I took my booty to the lady having the sale expecting  to pay
at the very least $15 to $20, she looked at what I held out
and said $3 for all of it. $3!! I was in heaven because even
if the rings didn't fit me, they would be a
great find for my Etsy Vintage shop customers!

I paid the kind lady, and once I was at home, I took out the
Tarn-X and  began to shine my treasures! They were just
beautiful and what was even more fantastic is that they fit me
like a glove! I am now on the  search for a 18" silver
chain for the pendants.

Can you tell I'm happy with my new body decor?

BTW, I am taking part in Silver Sunday at The Gypsy Fish!

Images of Mother

I have a collection of lovely vintage images of mothers engaged in her many daily tasks.
Enjoy your Mother's Day!
